Viscosity at RHIC: Theory and Practice
نویسنده
چکیده
Hydrodynamic behavior and the associated discussions of viscosity at RHIC has inspired a renaissance in modeling viscous hydrodynamics. An explanation of Israel-Stewart hydrodynamics is presented here, with an emphasis on the tangible benefits compared to Navier Stokes.

O ct 2 00 5 Viscosities of Hot Gluon – A Lattice QCD Study –
We present transport coefficients (shear viscosity, η, and bulk viscosity, ζ) for the gluon system obtained by the lattice QCD. This is an indispensable calculation towards the understanding of " New State of Matter " observed in RHIC. We study the temperature regions of RHIC (1.4 ≤ T /T c ≤ 1.8) and much higher ones up to T /T c ∼ 20. In RHIC regions, the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy de...
متن کاملThe Future of Quark Matter at RHIC
The matter discovered at RHIC has shown a number of very surprising properties. It is extremely dense and has an initial energy density well above that expected for the phase transition from ordinary hadronic matter into quark gluon plasma. [1–4] The dense matter is very opaque to colored particles, such as quarks or gluons, traversing it. This gives rise to the striking jet quenching observed ...
متن کاملDifferential elliptic flow prediction at the LHC from parton transport
Introduction. General physics arguments and calculations for a class of conformal field theories suggest [1, 2] that quantum effects impose a lower bound on transport coefficients. For example, the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio is above a small value η/s ∼ 0.1 (“most perfect fluid” limit). Dissipative effects can therefore never vanish in a finite, expanding system. On the other hand...
متن کاملViscosity and boost invariance at RHIC and LHC
We consider the longitudinal hydrodynamic evolution of the fireball created in a relativistic heavy-ion collision. Nonzero shear viscosity reduces the colling rate of the system and hinders the acceleration of the longitudinal flow. As a consequence, the initial energy density needed to reproduce the experimental data at RHIC energies is significantly reduced. At LHC energies, we expect that sh...
متن کاملTHEORY, EXPERIMENT AND PRACTICE OF SLAG ATTACK OF REFRACTORIES
Penetration and dissolution mechanisms are reviewed for predominantly single-phase oxide, two phase oxide and oxide-carbon composite refractories by liquid silicate slags. Theoretical models of these processes, as well as static (sessile drop, dipping and crucible) and dynamic (rotating finger and rotary slag) experimental tests, along with their practical limitations are considered. Direct (co...
